Construction

Building schools in Cambodia requires Classroom of Hope (COH) and Children’s Action for Development (CAD) to follow the government approved construction plans and designs. For the actual construction work, a local contractor was hired to manage the labour and transportation of materials, oversee the construction, and arrange the required furniture.

Payments were made in installments based on previously agreed completion steps of construction phases. The last payment, corresponding to 5% of the total amount, will be held back for six months as a guarantee for the quality of the infrastructure. The teachers’ salaries and training are supported and managed by the government. The school management and the community have agreed to maintain and manage the facility after completion.

The CAD project team visited the site two times per week in order to monitor the progress and to check the quality of the work. The construction started on 26th August 2020. The construction ran smoothly without major issues and was fully completed on 4th December 2020, slightly ahead of schedule. The children moved in straight away!

COH and CAD are very satisfied with the new school building of Tual Lvieng Primary School. We are glad that the students now have a safe and conducive learning environment. The new school building will be officially handed over to the community during an opening ceremony. The date for this opening ceremony will be determined when Covid-19 is no longer a risk and governments opens air travel.
