Goodbye for now

[ E D I T O R ' S N O T E ]

It’ s a surreal feeling putting this – my last editor’ s note for The TRADE – together. The last few months have been nothing short of a rollercoaster, both personally for me and within the wider markets. Budget season is fast approaching, Trumps tariffs could be found to have been made illegally, the Federal Reserve moved to – under duress – cut interest rates as the White House continues to threaten its independence, France has a new Prime Minister in play with an uphill battle on his hands to gain control over the country’ s national debt, and to say that the geopolitical climate globally remains turbulent is an understatement. In my Leaders in Trading speech last year, I quoted a comment that made me laugh but couldn’ t be more true, that‘ black swan events were becoming more and more pigeon-like in their frequency’. The markets have had to deal with more major events than I can count in the last five years from the pandemic, to the war in Ukraine, to Liz Truss’ mini budget that threatened to topple the UK gilts market. And yet, traders continue to soldier on. This edition of The TRADE Magazine, as always, intends to keep you informed of the industry’ s movements as the markets continue to change around us, with the latest news and people moves, in depth features and exclusive buy-side content. Starring on our cover this quarter are Degroof Petercam’ s Philip Bille, head of buy-side dealing and market structure, and Pierre Renna, head of buy-side fixed income dealing. Also, featured as this quarter’ s Meet the Desk interview is the Pictet Asset Management fixed income team. As some of you may know, I myself am about to embark on a new journey and will be leaving The TRADE at the end of September for a new opportunity. I couldn’ t summarise the highlights of my wonderful five and half years at The TRADE in this 400 word editor’ s letter so once you’ ve finished reading all of our excellent content, flip to the back of this issue so we can have a proper goodbye.
