T rail runners will once again face a thrilling test on the slopes of Devil’ s Peak and Table Mountain as sponsors MiWayLife come on board to partner the traditional‘ long’ and‘ short’ mountain runs that have been missing from the Two Oceans Marathon line-up for the past two years.
Always popular, the Two Oceans Marathon Trail Run has hosted many of the country’ s leading athletes since it first launched 15 years ago, with past winners including a who’ s who of the South African trail running scene. Athletes of the calibre of Lucky Miya, Bernard Rukadza, Thabang Madiba, Eric Ngubane, Kane Reilly and Collin Kanyimo have faced off in the men’ s competition over the years, while Michelle Lombardi, Landie Greyling, Annamart Laubscher, Hayley Preen, Meg Mackenzie and Lijan Burger have vied for top honours in the women’ s race.
Off the calendar during the pandemic, the races made a brief comeback in July 2022, only to be shelved for technical reasons in the next two years. Collin Kanyimo and Lijan Burger took top honours in 2022 over a 24km race, while Siviwe Nkombi and Mariske Uys came out on top in the shorter 13km race.
The Two Oceans Marathon Trail Run makes a welcome return to the Race Weekend lineup under new sponsor MiWayLife this April, serving up 22km and 12km races that promise both fast-paced action and stunning scenery.

New routes
The routes have been modified for 2025, and the races will again start and finish at the University of Cape Town, just as they did for the inaugural race in 2010.
That was a thrilling race that saw 34-year-old financial asset manager Cas van Aardenne upset race favourites Nic Rupanga and Warren Petterson to take the honours.“ The course was technical and superb and definitely suited me,” remarked Van Aardenne at the finish.“ Cape Town has some of the world’ s best scenic vistas and great trails, so it makes sense that a race of this stature should exploit those riches.” Exploit them they will over two revamped routes.
