Lloyd Bosman has his eyes on gold at the 2025 Totalsports Two Oceans Marathon
Lloyd Bosman is gearing up for another shot at glory in the 2025 Totalsports Two Oceans Marathon. After finishing second in 2024, he feels he has‘ unfinished business’ and is determined to go one step further this year.
Reflecting on last year’ s race, Bosman describes the experience as both rewarding and frustrating.“ Coming so close but also so far— it’ s tough. My high school coach, Gerhard Gibson, always said,‘ Coming second feels like kissing your sister.’ But it was an amazing experience running alongside some of the best in the country.”
Winning the 2025 edition would mean everything to him and his training group.“ It’ s not an easy journey for me and my training tribe. We believe in each other, and that’ s what makes it so special if I can win in 2025. It’ s a tough road, but we are in it together.”
TRAINING AND STRATEGY
While Bosman hasn’ t made major changes to his training routine, he and his team have adjusted their race schedule leading up to the event.“ We didn’ t race as much this year before Oceans. We want to come in fresh.” He emphasises that patience will be key in executing his race strategy.“ At Two Oceans, you need to wait, wait, and wait some more for the right time. The race is never won at the halfway mark. The real move happens around 45km.”
Endurance remains a major focus for Bosman, but he knows speed will play a crucial role in the final stretch.“ The last 14km is vital— speed, speed, speed. But before that, you need good endurance. We will stick around and wait for the right moment.”
EXPECTING A TOUGH RACE
With a strong field lining up for 2025, Bosman expects a highpaced, tactical race. He highlights Stephen Mokoka and Folavio Sehohle as top contenders, all of whom bring a mix of speed and endurance.“ This year’ s race will be won when the faster guys make their move in the last 14km. It’ s not going to be easy, and we also have to factor in the weather.”
When it comes to competition, he has immense respect for his teammate Onalenna Khonkhobe.“ Onalenna is an amazing superstar and a great teammate. Running alongside him will be good again. Nedbank will dominate. That’ s how we stand.”
With the race fast approaching, Bosman remains focused on his goal— crossing the finish line first and securing that TTOM2025 Gold Medal. With a solid plan and unwavering determination, he is ready for the challenge that lies ahead.
