Dr . William ( Bill ) Weiss
The 2021 Proceedings of the Tri-State Dairy Nutrition Conference are dedicated to Professor Bill Weiss , Department of Animal Sciences , The Ohio State University . He retired in January , 2021 after 33 years of being on the faculty at Ohio State . Bill received his BS ( 1980 ) and MS ( 1981 ) degrees from Purdue University and his PhD from Ohio State in 1985 . He was a postdoctoral researcher at Ohio State prior to being on the faculty at North Dakota State University from April 1986 through December 1987 . Throughout his career , his research has focused on forage utilization , energy value of feeds , feed management , and vitamin and mineral requirements . He developed a world-renown research program , but he never lost sight to sharing his research with stakeholders in Ohio and the Tri-State area .
Bill has supported the Tri-State Dairy Nutrition Conference from its inception . You don ’ t have to ask Bill if he plans to attend the Conference , you just know he is unless something rather significant causes a conflict . He has always promoted the Conference as he travelled around the US and world . Beyond this , he has been the most frequented speaker for the Conference . He spoke at the first Conference in 1992 and of the 29 years for the program , he has spoken at least 22 of the years , that ’ s 75 % of the Conferences . Almost every year , he is among the first , if not the first , speaker to get his article submitted for the Proceedings . Attendees have always respected his knowledge of the field and his ability to communicate complex aspects of science in easily understood manners . His research focused on basic concepts with applied applications , and he has always been accepting of the invitation to speak at the Conference .
