Our unit was on the ground floor, as we requested, with no lake view; next time we will ask for a view unit now that we know the layout. Our unit was very comfortable with full kitchen, well supplied with dishwasher, microwave, large fridge, gas stove, toaster, blender, large coffee maker, and telephone (no charge for local calls). The bedroom had a queen-size bed, TV, ample closets and chests of drawers, and two table lamps. In the living room was a large hideabed, three nicely framed lithographs of bears, three large lamp tables with lamps, a huge coffee table, a TV, DVD, a large round oak table with four chairs on rollers, chandelier, snack bar with two stools and a large stone fireplace. Supplies for the unit included packets of gourmet or decaf as needed, liquid soap, dishwasher soap, plenty of kitchen towels, wash cloths, hot pads, scrub pads, nice white heavy bath and hand towels, and wash clothes for four people. Daily maid service, except Saturday, was provided and a midweek linen change and cleaning is available. Resort facilities include children’s play area, games room, handicapped unit, outdoor enclosed heated spa, laundry, indoor swimming pool, exercise room and big air-conditioned rec room. No pets are allowed. They have a wonderful dock for fishing with seats and pole holders. The lake has rainbow trout, bass and catfish. Next time I will bring my fishing gear. One day a 12 year-old boy caught a 14" & 18" trout. We were watching them clean them and his father asked me if we liked fish. I said absolutely, so he gave us the 14" one which we had for dinner. The boy took the 18" one to the office for weighing and measuring for the kids fishing tournament. Lagonita Lodge consists of four three-story buildings with elevators. There are 96 units consisting of one-, two- and threebedrooms. Some of the one-bedroom units have two baths. The resort is nestled among exhilarating mountain greenery on the shores of enchanting Big Bear Lake. You can enjoy the solitude of the resort or be a part of the small-town environment that gives Big Bear Lake its special character. Be sure to enjoy boating, hiking, fishing and horseback riding in the summer, and take advantage of close-by cross-country and downhill skiing in the winter. He and his wife enjoyed four weeks in New Zealand, staying at timeshares at Turangi Leisure Lodge on the North Island and at the Edgewater Club on the South Island. For grocery shopping there is Stater Brothers or Vons six miles away. We preferred Stater Brothers - - much better prices. You definitely want to visit The Village, a group of shops and restaurants two miles from the resort. We had dinner one evening at Blondies - excellent food. The walls are decorated with famous male and female blondes. We also had lunch another day at Boo Bear’s (great sandwiches.) Be sure and eat outside in the garden area. Our last night was dinner at Pong’s Oriental Delights. A wonderful menu of Thai and Japanese food from. $8.99 - $13.99. They also serve Sushi. In your arrival packet is a daily activity schedule. For example, the Friday we arrived, a complimentary wine and cheese, sodas and snacks reception was on at 5 to 7 pm. There are activities all day long for children and adults. There are trips such as a lake cruise, Big Bear Zoo, Farmers Market, pirate ship tour, offroad adventures, etc. They also have a pool tournament, ping pong tournament, arts and crafts, Bingo, Bunco, blackjack, scavenger hunt and more. While we were there, we had three short thunderstorms which gave us 20-30 minutes of good rain to clean the air, and then everything was clear again. All in all, it was a great week; we only wished we could have stayed longer. Try this place, you will love it! www.tstoday.com for back issue
