However, this may not only be in
the aspect of sexual immorality
alone, we must have been involved
in a sinful act to one degree or another, we have swapped what we
had for what we could have had
for a lie.
Yet someone may still be asking
what is the big deal about sex, this
was the focus of chapter 3, ‘well all
sins are alike to God you might say’,
but the apostle Paul thinks differently.
T
THE PURITY PRINCIPLE
he book ‘The purity principle’
was written to help believers
have a clear perspective on
how to deal with the menace of
impurity that has so overwhelmed
our society today - sexual immorality, pornography and other forms
of sexual sin are already becoming
a norm in our society, yet we cannot afford to allow this trend to
sweep us off our feet.
In the 1st chapter ‘Forfeiting what
could have been’, the key scripture is from Jonah 2:8, which says
“Those who cling to worthless
idols forfeit the grace that could
be theirs”.
He stated that sexual sin is idolatry
because it puts our desires in the
place of God, adding that those who
turn from God to embrace a Godsubstitute suffer terrible loss, why?
Because they were made to find Joy
in God not the substitute.
With this attitude it gives a trade-off
of God’s present and future blessing
for something that we can immediately see, taste, or feel.
But that something never satisfies.
In his words “every day Christian
men and women forfeit future happiness for the sake of temporary
sexual stimulation, like drug addicts,
we go from fix to fix, trading the contentment of righteous living for the
quick hits that always leave us empty, craving for more.”
Truth 10
“flee from sexual immorality, all
other sins a man commits are outside his body, but he who sins sexually, sins against his own body 1
Cor” 6:18.
According to Alcorn, there is something different about sexual sin,
why? Because it is not Just something you do, it is someone you
are. When you have sex outside
marriage you put your life on the
line, you give away something you
may never get back.
He then talks about sex being incredibly powerful, how it is able
to do immense good or harm. The
boundaries of sex: is to be in the
boundaries of marriage, according
to the Bible, with emphasis that
our body is the temple of the Holy
Spirit.
Randy Alcorn further states that
before the actual act of sexual immorality occurs, it has already oc
