Paul Antony Darling ( Coll , 73-77 ); died 2.8.2024 . St Edmund Hall , Oxford . Called to the Bar 1983 , took silk 1999 and joined Keating Chambers , a leading construction law set , becoming head of chambers 2010- 15 . He had a wide commercial practice , covering construction and engineering , procurement , domestic and international arbitration . He wrote and edited several publications on construction law and was heavily involved on the fifth edition of Keating on Construction Contracts and , with Richard Wilmot-Smith KC , on Wilmot-Smith on Construction Contracts . In 2017 , he took the unusual step of moving to 39 Essex Chambers to broaden his practice leading the construction and commercial team and where he ‘ established a formidable reputation as an advocate in all types and levels of tribunals all over the world ’. In 2006 he was appointed as a non-executive member of the Horserace Totalisator Board ; a government-appointed member of the Horserace Betting Levy Board 2008- 14 ; then chairman of the Association of British Bookmakers 2014 ; and finally Chairman of the Horserace Betting Levy Board 2020 , being reappointed in 2023 . Chairman of the Sports Grounds Safety Authority 2009-15 . OBE 2015 . He also held a senior committee position at the Garrick Club . In 2013 he married Camilla Barker , who survives him . Callum Michael Chapman ( A , 76-81 ); died 27.3.2024 . Brother of JAC . A very keen musician : double bass , piano and choir . Royal Free Hospital School of Medicine 1987 . Senior House Officer stints throughout the UK , then West Middlesex University Hospital as locum registrar in Geriatrics and General Medicine 1992 . Acting Consultant Geriatrics and General Medicine , WMUH 2002 . Substantive Consultant . Developed his special interest in heart failure in older people and set up the hospital ’ s first specialist heart failure service . Led research into iron deficiency and heart failure . FRCP . Diagnosed with Glioblastoma 2023 . After he stepped down from duties due to his illness , the Chief Executive Officer of the Chelsea and Westminster Trust wrote : ‘ There is no doubt that the heart failure service at WMUH has developed into what it is today due to your leadership and passion for the care of patients ’.

Jonathan Charles Crisp ( C , 96-01 ); died 1.4.2024 . Brother of SAC . He completed a PhD in Biochemistry ( publishing 3 papers ) at Bristol University before moving onto jobs in various sectors , including marketing , product management and management consulting . He became a senior scientific advisor for the Civil Service before retraining as an Occupational Therapist , where he worked with children before finally starting work with the Royal College of Occupational Therapists . He had many hobbies and interests : he was very active and loved the outdoors – he was a keen runner , competent skier and enjoyed walking and hiking . He also had a passion for music , gardening , permaculture and travelling .
Edward Barnard ( I , 07-12 ); died 9.1.2024 . Exhibitioner . Chapel Choir , 2 nd Soccer XI 2011 , Head of House . St Hugh ’ s College Oxford , Chemistry , where he took a first as well as a college prize for lab work . A keen footballer , he subsequently played for the London Falcons and had a pivotal role in the team that won Silver Medal at the 2019 Rome Eurogames : ‘ it magnified his best qualities-his selflessness , mischievousness and brilliance ’. He began his career as a life sciences consultant before spending 2 years at IQVIA , the US health sciences firm , where he built a reputation for his high standards and received rapid promotion . He was diagnosed with a congenital heart condition in 2021 . He fell in love with the people and landscape of Bolivia where he enjoyed trekking and spent three months shortly before he died .
