Andrew Hampton writes : My news is that I have stepped away from the Headship of Thorpe Hall School , Essex , having been runnerup in the TES Independent School Awards 2021 for ’ Senior School of the Year ’. I now run a training company called Girls on Board , which teaches teachers how to empower girls in school to navigate the choppy waters of friendships .
Gerard Cloke Browne ( B , 14-19 ), has completed the overhaul of the flight simulator in Armoury , which was instigated by him while still in the school . Having put together the case for and secured external funding , he rebuilt the computer hardware and refurbished all controls . Virtual pilots can now fly aircraft ranging from the Cessna 172 to the Lockheed SR – 71 ‘ Blackbird ’.
Gerard , who is now studying Chemical Engineering at The University of Manchester hopes to keep the software current as well as to expand to different types of aircraft , such as helicopters .
Noel Dobbs ( D , 50-55 ) writes : On 4 th October 2022 , ten Kennyites , who joined the House between 1949 and 1953 met at St John restaurant in Smithfield for lunch : this was a gastronomic treat organised and hosted by Adrian Fontes . It was the second time at St John and follows lunches at Skinners Hall , the Garrick and Brooks ’ s clubs .
These lunches started in 2014 following a 60 Years On lunch organised by Win Coll Soc the previous year at the Cavalry and Guards Club and attended by 9 Kennyites , who decided they liked each other enough to want to continue to meet . Inevitably old age has taken its toll , necessitating some topping up with younger Kennyites , but aiming to ensure that all were in Hall at the same time . The recent lunch at St John was in a private room with a glass door , past which other patrons went : one was seen to glance in and his face showed amazement at so many animated old men together !
News has reached us of an impromptu gathering of Toyeites during the Headmasters ’ Conference in Edinburgh on 5 th October 2022 . The picture shows Sam Hart ( HoDo , 15-21 ), Henry Beddow ( 13-18 ), Ivar Bullen ( 16-21 ), Dom du Boulay ( 17-22 ), Lucy Hart , William Kimberly ( 17-22 ), Felix Beddow ( 16-21 ) and Kai Marshall ( 16-21 ) enjoying each other ’ s company in an Edinburgh hostelry .
