Nigel Cliff ( Coll , 82-86 ) was awarded the Doctor of Letters ( DLitt ) by the University of Oxford . The higher doctorate recognises a body of work of international importance in its field . Nigel has had a varied career as a journalist , author and screenwriter , beginning as a film and theatre critic on The Times and contributing to publications including The Economist and The New York Times . He is the author of The Shakespeare Riots ( Random House , 2006 ); The Last Crusade : The Epic Voyages of Vasco da Gama ( Harper , 2011 ; Atlantic , 2012 ) and Moscow Nights : The Van Cliburn Story - How One Man and His Piano Transformed the Cold War ( Harper , 2016 ), which have been widely translated ; and the translator and editor of Marco Polo ’ s Travels ( Penguin Classics , 2015 ). He has been a Fellow of Harris Manchester College , Oxford and the Royal Literary Fund . Alongside his published work he currently focusses on creating television drama series .

With effect from 1 June 2022 , Joe Saumarez-Smith ( B , 85-89 ) has been appointed Chairman of the British Horseracing Authority , the regulator and administrator of all British horseracing .

On 16th September two Old Toyeites , Kelvin Pak ( 12-17 ) and Sinan Barazi ( 87-89 ) won the best presentation at the British Neuroendoscopy Society ’ s AGM .
