No . 134 The Trusty Servant
Drama : Sam Baddeley ( Co Ro 16- ) writes : 2022 has been a year of high-quality house drama . Fourth years in Freddie ’ s directed and designed the set for their larger-than-life dramatization of Agatha Christie ’ s And Then There Were None , whilst in Chawker ’ s , the housedon directed a moving piece of his own composition , In Equal Honour . At the time of writing , we have just enjoyed a pacey production of Shaffer ’ s Amadeus , and we are looking forward to the Cookites ’ and Beloeites ’ offerings next year .
The main event of the first half of the year was A Midsummer Night ’ s Dream , our first whole-school production since 2019 . The cast and crew are to be congratulated for their success in bringing out the fun and energy of this piece whilst not losing sight of the serious issues with which it is concerned . They played to a full house each night ; indeed , pupils queued for over half an hour to get a seat .
We offer several activities which focus on the development of skills in various theatrical disciplines : we have over fifty pupils signed up for LAMDA lessons in acting , public speaking and musical theatre , and ever-growing numbers at the weekly meetings of Technical Theatre Club and Make-up Society .
Sport : Mark Burley ( Co Ro 20- ) writes : Lords progressed through an outstanding season , unbeaten until the final week of term and finished 2 nd in the John Harvey Trophy . The U17 team reached the semi-final of the Cricketer Cup run , the 2nd XI went undefeated and the U14As narrowly lost in the County Cup final .
Boat Club saw the 1 st VIII put up a commendable performance at Henley . With 6 of the crew returning ,
Platinum Jubilee Lunch on Ball Court and Meads

The senior tennis team were unbeaten for the second year in a row and the top team amongst the juniors were the U15As , winning 7 from 8 so real strength in depth exists across the club .
In athletics County titles were taken by five athletes and two long-standing school records were broken .
Soccer XI have lost just one match in the first half of Short Half , and are into the last 32 of the ISFA National Cup ; the Yearlings A have progressed into the 3 rd round of the ESFA Cup .
It is also pleasing to report how well the girls have assimilated into the sports programme . Alexandra Bunn- Livingstone ( B ) has represented the senior basketball team ; last Saturday , Anna Pasfield ( A ) and Selin Mucen
( B ) played alongside their male peers in the 7 th XI and Alexandra , along with Francesca Collins ( A ), sculled in our first ever mixed crew at Monkton .
The Queen ’ s Platinum Jubilee About 950 members of the Winchester community sat down for a Platinum Jubilee Lunch on Meads on 26 th May . This was the first such lunch since the ending of hostilities in the First World War . However , on that occasion , College Servants ( or Support Staff ) served rather than ate : this event , therefore , made history .
The school was fully seated by 1309 . The Headmaster gave the loyal toast at 1343 and , after the national anthem and Domum , the lunch was over by 1350 . By 1410 not a chair or table remained in its place .
