The 1924 Everest Expedition . Irvine and Mallory back left
A Hot at Base Camp ?
At the Patrons ’ dinner that concluded the celebration , Richard Fuller ( H , 73-77 ) spoke about the planned visit to Everest to commemorate the 1924 expedition , which concluded with the loss of George Mallory and Sandy Irvine during their attempt on the summit .
This will be a three-week trip culminating in a commemorative dinner in sight of Everest and , it is hoped , at Base Camp , on 8th June 2024 – one hundred years after their last sighting .
Beginning in Nepal , the first few days will be spent trekking ( easily !) in the foothills of Annapurna as well as seeing the sights of Kathmandu . It is hoped to arrange a mountain flight over Everest itself .
The team will then fly to Lhasa in Tibet to get more acclimatised , before heading on to the Tibetan Plateau , taking in villages and monasteries before arriving at Rongbuk in the shadow of Everest ’ s North Face .
This will be a spectacular private tour that will bring together the very best experiences of Nepal and Tibet while celebrating the life of George Mallory in his centenary year .
