He gave the opening speech at the journal ’ s launch at COP26 , an international youth roundtable on solutions to climate change .
14 pupils were awarded their musical diplomas in the latest cycle , half gaining distinctions .
Brandon Chan ( C , 17- ) came 3rd worldwide in the independent open category at the International Economics Olympiad this summer . Featuring 44 different nations , Brandon was the highest-scoring UK contestant and achieved a nearperfect score in one of his exams .
Ivan Shatrov ( Coll , 17- ), Alexander Apostolides ( Coll , 17- ) and Christopher Leung ( Coll , 18- ) won the top , roentgenium , awards in the Cambridge Chemistry Challenge for Lower Sixth . This placed them in the top 0.7 % of entrants .
Jona Cordonier Gehring ( Coll , 19- ) won a Gold Award for his entry in the Cambridge Schools Eco Council ’ s 2021 Eco-Challenge . The panel included Justice Professor Marcel Szabo of the Constitutional Court and the United Nations Human Rights Commission Office .

Earlier this year , Ian Fraser ( Biology , 00- ; Master in College , 12- ), was chosen as one of ten winners of the 2021 Chesil Theatre New Writing Festival , which received over 400 entries . His play , A Grande Day Out , was staged at the Chesil Theatre in October .
Liz Veal ( Economics , 13- ) has been given an award by Chicago University for being an outstanding educator .
Hannah Fox ( Classics , 00-02 ) has been appointed Academic and Universities Director at Harrow School , becoming the first woman on the Senior Management Team in the school ’ s 449-year history .
This year Winchester College was represented at the Tokyo Olympic Games by Dara Alizadeh ( Gordon Junior Fellow , 15-17 ). He went on from Winchester to Cambridge University , where he was twice in the winning Boat Race crew , on the second occasion also serving as President of CUBC . Although his experience was rowing in eights , Dara took up sculling in May 2019 . Three months later he competed at the World Rowing Championships with the aim of securing a place for Tokyo

2020 . Representing Bermuda at the Olympics , Dara was in a small , but elite , company : he was the third rower in Bermuda ’ s history to represent the island in the Olympics . He was even given the honour of carrying the flag at the Opening ceremony . Speaking of the honour Dara said , ‘ That was probably the coolest thing I ’ ve ever done . Before this , it was getting to lift the trophy on Boat Race day !’ It may not be the last time Win Coll Boat Club will cheer on their former coach . When asked if we might see Dara on the international stage again , he replied , ‘ We ’ ll see : there ’ s only two more years until the next Olympic qualification !’

A Gascoigne ; Institut Francais d ’ Archaeologie Orientale , Cairo ), Ben ’ s chapter reconstructs the ancient landscape context of a medieval city in lagoons of north-east Egypt . He has two book chapters currently going through peer review , both in separate books being published through the British Museum ; both look at the ancient landscapes of the western Delta , particularly around the well-known Greek site of Naukratis . And he is currently working on a journal article to be submitted to the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences which reconstructs the
