Matthew Winter ( CoRo , 05 – 23 ; Ho Do D , 10-19 ) Beth Mackintosh ( Co Ro , 22- ), Head of Theology and Philosophy , writes : There is a saying ‘ show me who your friends are and I ’ ll know who you are .’
Matt has a huge network of friends and connections in this community and beyond in Hampshire , and many of those connections have been of great benefit to the pupils and staff as part of his fantastic Futures and Careers events .
To change the phrase slightly to ‘ show me your children and I ’ ll know who you are .’ James ( Fox , Co Ro , 06-12 and 13- ) and I have had the great privilege to know Matt and Anna as parents , and to support their wonderful children at their secondary schools .
Matt , Anna and their children lived in Kenny ’ s for nine years and we should thank all of them for their incredible commitment to boarding life : it must never be underestimated what it takes to do that job , and what all the family give up and do to support the housedon and the wider boarding family – no matter how much the housedon ’ s family says , ‘ Oh , we do nothing really !’
Not only has Matt led a boarding house , but he also led the Theology and Philosophy department . When he arrived , there was no visible department , no discrete T or P in terms of lessons , no paperwork , and no team . Matt has helped steer and develop the disciplines of theology and philosophy as a Head of
Department and also a devoted and inspirational don who has first and foremost been a team player . Anyone who has ever been in a meeting with Matt will know how he values his ‘ check-ins ’ with us all ; he knows the importance of building trust and connection ; he is someone who celebrates others ’ success , and is able to say thank you .
We need to emulate Matt by thanking him for his impressive contributions to the school : to sport as don in charge of Hockey for many years here ; to careers and futures and the US universities provision ; to boarding ; the department ; and our subject . He will be sorely missed , but how very lucky his new company is to have someone joining them who has his mindful and reflective approach to leadership . Thank you wholeheartedly from all of us .
Tom Quayle ( Co Ro , 19 – 23 ) Alex Latter ( Co Ro , 19- ), Master in College ( 22- ) and Head of English ( 19-22 ) writes : Tom leaves us to take up the role of Deputy Head Pastoral at King Edward ’ s Birmingham . During his time here , he ’ s contributed an awful lot to a great many areas of the school : with Justin , he led the first iteration of Catalyst with unflagging energy ; he has revamped the UCAS provision ; developed the PHSE program ; coached and refereed seemingly every sport going ; set new standards in the gym , where his ability to empty a gym packed with pupils when he starts his heavy squat routine is the stuff of legend ; he has been a valued tutor in Phil ’ s and Trant ’ s , taught English brilliantly and has been a valued friend and colleague to many .
