The Trusty Servant
On Sunday, 8th June 2025, the 101st anniversary of Mallory and Irvine’ s final summit attempt, the same Wykehamical group gathered in Cloisters to conclude their Mallory commemoration. Mark Power( C, 79-84) spoke movingly beside the memorial, and Chris Nicholls( E, 83-8) recited Psalm 121 before presenting the College with the silk scarf he received last year in Rombuk.
Mark also happens to be an accomplished artist and filled sketchbooks with drawings and watercolours while in Tibet. He has published a selection of these in a new book: VANISHING, A Tibetan Sketchbook which he launched to a captivated audience before the ceremony began( see TS 139). He kindly presented two copies to Mob Lib.

Goddard Day, 20 September 2025 Every year, Winchester College hosts Goddard Day, to celebrate all those who have pledged a legacy to the College in their Will. On Saturday 20 September 2025, 90 members and guests of the Goddard Legacy Society joined in the celebration.
The Chapel service was led by our newly-installed Dean of Chapel, Ben Sargent, and following a lunch in New Hall, both the Warden and Headmaster spoke about the school’ s plans and their gratitude for those who support it so warmly. John Roskill( D, 48-53) replied on behalf of the guests.
Pledging a legacy is an excellent way to support Winchester College and will entitle you to membership of the Goddard Legacy Society. If you would like to know more, please contact Patrick Walker( I, 65-70) at pncw @ wincoll. ac. uk
