Drax operates and supports coalfired power stations that have switched to burning biomass . Its business in the US produces compressed wood pellets across North America , a model that is not without its critics . However , the forests are sustainably managed and the wood pellets are made from the byproduct of the forestry process to produce quality timber for construction and furniture . We believe this is a valuable service that is helping countries in Europe and Asia reduce their dependence on coal . In addition , Drax is investing in carbon capture and storage with the aim of becoming carbon negative by 2030 .
Think of any type of equipment used in construction – diggers and dumpers , loaders , access platforms , forklift trucks , pneumatic drills and generators – and Ashtead probably leases it out . Ashtead ’ s business model is environmentally friendly as it reduces waste by maximising the use and productivity of machinery . A contractor may only need some of this machinery for a short period , so renting is often cheaper than buying and storing it . The company ’ s US subsidiary , Sunbelt Rentals , should benefit from Biden ’ s infrastructure package , being the second-largest operator in North America , with more than 1,000 stores .
