Young upstarts Beyond DIY platforms , there are many new entrants into this area that are selling funds directly to investors . This raises two questions : do you really want to a ), take on the laborious task of managing a portfolio on a day-to-day basis and b ), rack up the additional charges levied by an investment platform or wealth manager ? New app-based services such as AJ Bell ’ s Dodl are cheap with a no-frills approach , and although you could assume they ’ re designed for novices , there ’ s a lot to be said for this approach . We all scoffed at Ryanair and easyJet at first , but look at what they did to the airline industry .
