Editor ’ s letter

Once again , this magazine ’ s monthly publishing cycle has worked against it .
A cover feature containing Terry Smith , Nick Train and Peter Spiller would usually be guaranteed to grab our readers ’ attention , but a headline of “ Eureka !” now seems at odds with the mood of the country , as millions of Britons face paying hundreds of pounds more on their mortgage each month since I last wrote this letter . At least our other featured articles this month are suitably downbeat , as five IFAs tell Hannah Smith about the clients whose financial circumstances were turned upside down , while Cherry Reynard finds out how fund managers are coping with crisis conditions that haven ’ t been seen in 40 years .
Meanwhile , in this month ’ s sector focus , Adam Lewis covers one area of the property market that has already crashed , with discounts on some real estate investment trusts hitting 50 %.
In our regular columns , John Blowers looks at where counting the pennies can genuinely make you wealthier , JPMorgan ’ s Katen Patel names three consumer stocks he is confident will survive the hit to discretionary spending , and Evelyn Partners ’ James Burns reveals which fund he thinks will continue to eke out solid returns , even if market conditions remain tricky .
Enjoy reading ,
