I am now concerned for all these new investors who may feel like they have fallen into a trap and aren ’ t sure what to do next . Couple this fear with the cost-ofliving crisis , which is leaving people struggling for cash , and we have a situation where investors start raiding their portfolios when they are worth less than what they bought them for . And that ’ s a big no-no . Even more worrying for the investment industry is that all these new customers who have inflated their assets under management and share prices may close their accounts , vowing never to return . What should we say to these new investors that will help to allay their fears and steer them on the right course ?
The facts The FTSE All Share , an index comprising about 600 UK-listed companies , has risen by 8.3 % since the start of January 2020 , despite the fact this period has encompassed the biggest pandemic for more than 100 years and Russia ’ s invasion of Ukraine .
