Editor ’ s letter

I hope none of our readers will think the headline of this month ’ s cover feature , “ So you ’ ve bought a dud ”, refers to their purchase of this magazine . Fortunately , this is unlikely – after all , we don ’ t actually charge for it .
I also hope the actual subject of the article , of what to do if one of your investments collapses shortly after you bought it , doesn ’ t apply to you . Unfortunately , with the bear market hitting some of the most popular sectors of the past few years particularly hard , I am more pessimistic on this point . At least Cherry Reynard is on hand to offer advice on what your next steps should be . Elsewhere in this issue , Hannah Smith explains how to reason with a crypto fanatic , and I find out when rebalancing your portfolio becomes performance chasing .
This month ’ s sector focus highlights IA UK Smaller Companies , as Adam Lewis asks if there is a contrarian opportunity in this high-growth sector .
In our regular columns , John Blowers explains how novice investors should react to their first market crash , Adam Rackley of the VT Cape Wrath Focus fund names three stocks thrown up by his capital-cycle investing strategy , and Unicorn ’ s Peter Walls explains why the Aberforth Smaller Companies Trust is trading on a “ quadruple ” discount .
Enjoy reading ,
