So which commodities offer strong growth prospects over the next few years ? Here are three to consider .

Rare-earth metals

Luc Pez , co-manager of the Oyster Sustainable Europe fund , says rare-earth metals such as lithium , cobalt , manganese and copper are essential components for the world ’ s decarbonisation efforts . “ The mass adoption of electric vehicles ( EVs ) is set to bring a progressive end to the era of the internal combustion engine and will fuel demand for critical materials and minerals ,” he says . The manager is particularly excited about lithium , saying it is hard to understate its importance in the EV revolution . “ Its demand will be driven by the surge in Li-ion batteries and stationary energy storage ,” he says . “ Meanwhile , copper demand will be boosted by EVs and charging infrastructure .” With both metals facing miningcapacity bottlenecks and structural deficits , Pez says meeting this future upheaval in demand will require investment , driving a boost in capital expenditure .
