After a decade-long bear market , commodities are starting to show signs of life . Following a broad-based rally in the prices of most natural resources , the Bloomberg Commodity Spot index climbed to a 10-year high in May this year and it is not expected to stop there .
According to analysis from Cohen & Steers , fundamentals for natural resources are at their most attractive for almost a decade . Benjamin Ross , head of commodities at the group , says inventories were at multi-year lows before the pandemic hit , leaving producers scrambling to meet surging demand as economies across the globe began to re-open .
Ross highlights palladium , which hit a record high above $ 3,000 an ounce in the second quarter before consolidating a portion of its earlier gains .

“ Grains touched their highest levels in more than eight years , while lean hog prices have nearly doubled this year and stand at their highest level since 2014 , as a second wave of African swine fever resulted in a decline in the herd population ,” he says .
