Your Employees

Employees are likely the heart of your business , and what keeps them happy has changed over time . It ’ s quite likely , in fact , that their preferences are different today than they were even at the beginning of the year . While there are many benefits to working from home , it can still be challenging , especially if your employees are working parents . Here are some things employees value in the time of COVID-19 .
Communication
The uncertainty of COVID-19 left a lot of people craving a sense of direction and normalcy — communication and information was key to keeping people focused and calm . There is a direct correlation between the success of your employees and the success of your business . Therefore , it is in your best interest to be an emotionally intelligent leader . Emotional intelligence allows you to create a healthy workplace culture and helps your employees feel supported during trying times to come . Consider implementing regular company-wide meetings to keep morale high and encourage communication .
Flexibility
At the beginning of April , Governor Abbott enacted a stay-at-home order for Texans . Prior to the pandemic , many businesses were concerned about how employees would adjust to life outside the office and many were hesitant to allow employees to work remotely . However , many have found that not only can employees be successful working from home , but it often improves their happiness . For businesses that perform services in others ’ homes or businesses , there ’ s also been an adjustment . They ’ ve implemented such things as staggered arrivals to give employees daily supplies , shifted work orders to digital platforms and provided personal protective equipment designed to keep employees and customers safe . While some companies have reevaluated the need to work in an office at all , it ’ s important to consider how you keep your team feeling like a team when you can ’ t all sit in a room together . Thankfully , technology has made it easier than ever to get face time with employees even if they ’ re not seeing one another daily . Giving your employees flexibility — whether that ’ s working from home , staggering their start times or something else — can lead to increased satisfaction .
Sick Time
One of the biggest challenges that surrounds the pandemic is recognizing the illness in infected people and keeping those people at home to stop the spread . When people feel pressure to go to work so they can get paid , they put others at risk . Even once the threat of COVID-19 disappears , it is important to prioritize the health of others . Providing your employees with sick time or allowing them to work from home can keep your employees healthy and bring comfort to those battling illness .
