This fall, the Louisville Zoo will undergo inspection to retain accreditation from the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA). AZA accreditation is the highest standard of certification for a zoo or aquarium, surpassing the requirements of federal, state and local government regulations. Accomplishing this honor is no small task and must be repeated every five years. The application process is rigorous, focusing on animal management and welfare, veterinary care, education, conservation, research, safety and security, staff expertise and support, guest services and more. You can be proud of your Zoo’s high standards, recognized for 34 years by the AZA and for 14 years by the American Alliance of Museums, which also accredits our botanical collection. 10 • Louisville Zoo Trunkline • Fall 2017
