The Louisville Zoo Trunkline • Spring 2016 • 11 PARTY FOR THE PLANET A MONTH-LONG CELEBRATION OF THE EARTH Powered by O ne day isn’t enough to celebrate the wonder of our planet and promote the need to protect it — so the Louisville Zoo is hosting a month-long party. During the month of April, enjoy weekend activities and cool displays by our Eco-Partners to learn how you can do your part to help our planet. Plus, there will be ZooPoopyDoo compost and mulch sales, fun contests and more. Month-Long Events Monday, April 11, 18, and 25 Fun Day Mondays Enjoy $5.25 general admission on Fun Day Mondays in April. There will be special Zookeeper talks and appearances by Buddy Bat from 10 a.m. to noon and LG&E and KU’s Louie the Lightening Bug from noon to 2 p.m. Docents will be on hand with animals and biofacts from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 2, 9, 23 and 30 ZooPoopyDoo Compost and Mulch Sale 7:30 – 11:30 a.m. Get your garden ready for spring with our unique, high-quality ZooPoopyDoo compost and hardwood bark mulch. • Compost: $40 per scoop • Mulch: $19.50 per scoop (covers 17.8 cubic feet) Purchase instructions and options at louisvillezoo.org/zoopoopydoo. Special Day Events Every Saturday & Sunday in April, Zoo docents will be on hand with animal ambassadors and biofacts from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 2 Backyard Bird and Raptor Awareness Day 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Join the Louisville Zoo docents and Zookeepers as we highlight a variety of our feathered friends. Learn about the birds and raptors you may find in your own backyard! Sunday, April 3 Bear Day 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Come out and join the Louisville Zoo for a weekend that’s so much fun we can hardly “bear” it! Visit Glacier Run to learn how we care for all of our bear species and watch as the bears are treated to some special enrichment treats. Zoo mascot Grizzwald will meet and greet children of all ages. Be sure to bring your camera! Saturday, April 9 Eco-Partner: KY Herp Society 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Stop by the Zoo’s front plaza and visit with the Kentucky Herp Society (KHS) and some of their amazing creatures. The KHS promotes conservation and quality care of all wildlife, herpetofauna in particular, in every possible way. Sunday, April 10 Crocs Rock! 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. It’s crocodile day at the Zoo! Swim over to meet popular storybook character, Lyle Lyle Crocodile. Visit with Zookeepers and learn more about our scaly friends. What’s the difference between a crocodile and an alligator? Find out this and more! There will also be activities from Louisville Water Company. Saturday, April 16 Earth Day Celebration 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. (stay until 6 p.m.) Eco-Partner Displays: 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Celebrate Earth Day featuring special keeper talks, more than 20 community eco-partners and $8.25 Zoo admission all day courtesy of Louisville Gas and Electric Company and Kentucky Utilities Company. Plus FREE parking! Visit LG&E and KU’s Safety City display and Louie the Lightening Bug mascot from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. See how local students turn trash into treasure in our annual Trashformation Art Contest.
