Kindi's Journey
Presented by
Kindi’s Journey
Kindi and her surrogate gorilla mom Kweli continue
to spend time together bonding and learning about
each other. Kindi has become an expert at riding on
Kweli’s back, her primary mode of transportation
through the exhibit spaces. She is also spending
more and more time exploring the indoor and
outdoor spaces in Gorilla Forest under Kweli’s close
and watchful eye. While you might see them both
in Gorilla Forest now and then, they still do not have

a regularly scheduled daily rotation with the other
gorilla groups. Follow Kindi’s Journey online to see
what Kindi’s up to and see precious photos and video. Each update includes conservation
insights about the plight of gorillas in the remnant wild and health tips for your own family
from Baptist Health. Visit LouisvilleZoo.org/kindi
Another Important
Addax Birth at the Zoo
In the last issue of Trunkline, you may have read about
the June birth of Saharan addax “Henri.” Saharan addax
are critically endangered with less than 100 estimated
remaining in the remnant wild. The Louisville Zoo was
excited to welcome another addax baby in August.
Dobby likes to lie in tall grass and next to the large rocks
near the center of the addax exhibit. Be sure to stop by
on your next visit to the Zoo.
Reminder from the Louisville charter of the
American Association of Zookeepers
Power down for polar bears! Did you know that many electronic devices continue to draw
power even when not in use? Greenhouse gas pollution from wasted energy is part of the
reason the polar bear’s home ice sheets are melting. Unplug electronics when not in use or
use smart power strips. In the United States alone, the energy used each year by phantom
power is equal to the output from 18 typical power plant stations! Just a little effort can
make a big difference for our polar bear friends. Learn more at polarbearsinternational.org.
