This summer sees Marvel move away from Earthcentric superheroes, and shift towards a new
galactic adventure with a band of mis-matched
superheroes instead. If you were still sat around
at the end of Thor: The Dark World, you will have
seen Benicio Del Toro revealed as The Collector.
The closing tease is now a tradition for Marvel to
treat fans to an exclusive look at what is to come.
Del Toro’s white-haired character has provided
fans with a first look at Guardians of the Galaxy
and what could be one of the most ‘out there’
films of the summer.
The films sees Chris Pratt’s, Peter ‘Star Lord’
Quill, abducted from Earth as a child, but quickly
finds himself in trouble after stealing an orb
coveted by the villainous Ronan. In order to
evade Ronan, Quill is forced into a truce with a
group of misfits including Gamora, Rocket, Drax
the Destroyer, and Groot. Quill learns about the
true power of the orb and the menace it poses
to the cosmos, and must rally his rivals for a last
stand – with the galaxy’s fate in the balance.
The cast is littered with big stars like Zoe Saldana,
Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel and Glenn Close,
with lesser known stars including Dave Bautista,
Karren Gillan and Lee Pace. It’s certainly one of
Marvel’s most ‘out of this world’ castings to date,
but promises to be an interesting line-up.
Karen Gillan spoke to IGN about her role as
Nebula in Guardians of the Galaxy, and the
rivalry between her character and Gamora,
“There’s definitely some rivalry going on between
those girls. Absolutely! And they’re both extremely
fierce women and so when they bicker it’s like...
Imagine two sisters bickering and pulling each
others hair, well they fight like assassins.”
