Even the opening number recognises that sequels are never as good. The Muppets carry on from where they left off and head out on a world tour, but when Kermit is replaced by Constantine – the most wanted frog in the world – as a cover up for a host of audacious art-thefts, things become strange, and it doesn’t go unnoticed. Ricky Gervais is Constantine’s human sidekick Dominic Badguy (“It’s pronounced Badgey. It’s French”), who provides generous helpings of sweet-natured slapstick humour and puts aside the whole ‘friends first’ rule. The film’s opening number We’re Doing a Sequel is a fantastic toe tapper and the musical numbers, by Bret Mackenzie, are what really carry the film from 20 truefilm.co.uk DIRECTOR Darren Aronofsky CAST Russell Crowe, Ray Winstone, Emma start to finish. The film is a lot darker than previous Muppets’ films, it’s busily plotted, and is in some ways frantic and overstuffed. Celebrity cameos are something The Muppets are renowned for and here they come
