In 2018, Ellie Wilson thought she’d fallen in love. She was 19 and at university in Glasgow, part of a new group of friends and living the teenage dream, until it turned into a nightmare. Daniel, her boyfriend, became violent and coercively controlled her, assaulting her and raping her on multiple occasions.
Ellie secretly recorded Daniel admitting to his behaviour. With this evidence, she found the courage to go to the police who took the accusations seriously and the case went to court. Daniel was eventually convicted and sent to prison for five years.
This film follows Ellie as she comes to terms with being the victim of coercive control from her ‘first love’, meeting her friends and questioning what it was about this relationship that made her so vulnerable, and how she can rebuild her life with Daniel due to be released on parole.
