The anatomy of True Crime: Case Files eZine...

Seeking to take some of her work in a new direction, Criminologist Judith A. Yates created an eZine. An amazingly talented writer/historian Wayne H. Sanderson contacted her. Another author friend, Kelly Banaski, sent an email: “I want in!” In Fall 2016 True Crime: Case Files was born as the result of positive relationships between people who care about quality work.

This is the First Anniversary Issue of True Crime: Case Files.

This issue is Fall 2017; it has been one year that True Crime: Case Files has been published. To celebrate, award-winning journalist Diane Dimond is gracing the cover; this issue includes an exclusive interview with the hard-hitting journalist who was the first to break several major stories in U.S. media. Ms. Dimond has graciously allowed True Crime: Case Files to reprint an excerpt from her book, “Be Careful Who You Love: Inside the Michael Jackson Case.” Was the mega music superstar guilty or innocent of the charges of child molestation? Diane Dimond discusses the peril of covering the case, from breaking the first story on the investigation to Jackson’s acquittal. Dimond’s newest investigation is also featured here in a full-length article that first appeared as a five-part Albuquerque Journal series, and was awarded the Institute for American Studies prestigious Clark Mollenhoff Award for Outstanding Investigative Journalism.

As part of the anniversary celebration, True Crime: Case Files is sponsoring a writing contest. The winner receives museum passes to both the Crime Museum and the International Spy Museum, a reading by noted nonfiction literary manager Sharlene Martin, a free social media blitz on their submission, a “body bag o’books” from your favorite authors, and more! See inside for details ... and as an added bonus, true crime authors offer advice to future authors with “tips for new true crime authors.”

True Crime: Case Files recognizes organizations that assist crime victims. Thus, the “Our Hero” section was created. For this Fall 2017 special issue, the True Crime: Case Files Hero is Charity Navigator, a nonprofit organization that tracks and records information on charities in an effort to assist people in making wise decisions on their contributions.

As a regular feature, True Crime: Case Files introduces “The Baby Book from Hell.” Is criminal behavior the result of nature or nurture? In his book “The Female Offender” (1915) Professor Caesar Lombroso believed in a correlation between the criminal mind and physical traits to include body weight, jawline, and the shape of the cranium. Even today, people use such science: “He’s so handsome; why would he rape?” “She looks like a thug,” and of course, “They look so normal!” Peruse the sweet-faced babies in “The Baby Book from Hell.” Can we predict evil?

True Crime Review introduces the kind of book or video that TC professionals and enthusiasts will appreciate for information and educational purposes; where learning goes beyond the borders of the pages. This issue’s selection is the documentary “Miss Representation.”
