How many of your thought and ideas are actually your own? This got me thinking. When we are born our parents teach us the things they think are right and they instill their own values in us. We basically live extensions of their own lives. That’s great because our parents actually teach us some really neat stuff and we love them for it. But I think that one of the key things involved in becoming an adult is questioning these beliefs and these morals and thoughts and deciding for yourself if you want to continue with them or not.
I mean, if you never question anything in your life how can you even trust any decision you make to be your own. We are very influenced by other people and the media and our environment, it’s really good to know that if not all but at least some of your ideas are your own and if they aren’t your own then at least you evaluated them and decided to stick with them. If you refuse to question things then your mind is closed to learning new things and you are stuck doing things that don’t really speak that much to you or maybe you don’t even like because other people think it’s good. You need to break out of your shell and examine your life and the values you hold true. I mean Socrates said it best “an unexamined life is not worth living”.
