I read with fond remembrance a letter in the fall Triton issue regarding the accessibility of Nobel laureates strolling around the early days of Revelle College . As a freshman in 1966 , I became a little bit uneasy that first year in treading the realities of being away from home , war protests , exacting curricula , and strange roommates .
Dr . Linus Pauling had started an experiment on upper campus , having some students receive Vitamin B and others Vitamin C to help their mental outlooks . I saw him on Revelle Plaza and wandered up , offering in all seriousness my expert frosh opinion on the experiment — what REALLY helps , I suggested , are Reese ’ s Peanut Butter Cups . He looked at me quizzically and sighed as he thanked me and walked away ( I still think I ’ m right !). — Marie Eisen Davis , Muir ’ 71

I found this quote to be particularly applicable and true during this year of pandemic and disasters . I pushed myself to be courageous and work . At first , I worked a security job ( an essential worker position ) during the late spring to late fall of this year . However , your article neglects to mention that the definitive account ( at that time …) of Black ’ s Beach “ nude ” scene is : Douglas , Jack D ., Paul K . Rasmussen , and Carol Ann Flanagan . 1977 . The Nude Beach . Beverly Hills : Sage Publications . The exceptional ethnographic participant observation study of this important social scene captures the emerging freedom and conflicts about sexuality , identity , deviance , and youth culture .
