Lon D . McIlvain , Revelle ’ 74 , died August 18 , 2020 . He was a Vietnam War veteran who had a long career as a medical products executive . He is survived by his wife , son , grandchildren , and siblings .
David R . Ringrose , professor emeritus of history at UC San Diego , died September 10 , 2020 . He was 82 . Ringrose was an internationally renowned historian of Spanish and European economic history . He served as faculty coordinator for the “ Making of the Modern World ” ( MMW ) general education sequence in its developmental stage . He is survived by his wife , siblings , and children .
David R . Schubert , PhD ’ 69 , renowned cell biologist and professor at the Salk Institute , died August 6 , 2020 , due to complications from B cell lymphoma . He was 77 . Schubert spent 55 years at the Salk Institute and was known for the development of novel screening techniques that could help slow or prevent neurodegenerative disorders . He is survived by his wife , son , and grandchildren .
Lynn T . Slight , Muir ’ 73 , died July 1 , 2020 . She was 80 . Slight was known for her laughter , respect for animals , and love for her dog , Rigby .

Dr . Jeffrey D . Williams died
May 30 , 2020 , from non-
Hodgkin ’ s lymphoma . He
was 53 . Williams worked
at California Lutheran
University , devoted over
10 years to the Biomedical
Library at UC San Diego ,
and at the time of his death ,
was department chair and
director of the New York
University Health Sciences
Library in New York , NY . He is
survived by his wife , daughter ,
and extended family .
Dr . Flossie Wong-Staal , PhD ,
a former NIH scientist , a
major figure in the discovery
of HIV and the first to clone
the virus , died July 8 , 2020 ,
from a pneumonia infection .
She was 73 . Wong-Staal
was the director of UC San
Diego ’ s Center for AIDS
Research before retiring in
2002 and was the most-cited
female scientist of the 1980s ,
according to The Scientist . She
is survived by her husband ,
daughters , siblings , and
grandchildren .

Brian Campion , Muir , PhD ’ 90 ,
is vice president of business
development at Regulus
Therapies , a clinical-stage
biopharmaceutical company
focused on drugs that target
microRNAs to treat disease .
He lives in La Jolla with
his beautiful wife and two
daughters . He enjoys the
ocean every chance he gets
and plays guitar on his front
step most Sunday mornings .

Gregory Chapelle , Warren ,
PhD ’ 98 , was presented with
the Albert Nelson Marquis
Lifetime Achievement
Award by Marquis Who ’ s
Who for 35 years of work
as an electronics engineer
and researcher . He has
worked at General Atomics
since 2005 as a systems
architect developing synthetic
aperture radar for unmanned
air vehicles .
Mike Judge , Warren , creator
of Beavis and Butt-head ,
will revive the iconic adult
animated series for Comedy
Central with a two-season
order . Under the deal , he
will write , produce , and
provide voice-over for the two
infamous teenage characters .

He has worked for 30 years in
civic government .

married since 1996 and has
three sons and a daughter .
Andrew Chane , Marshall , and
Laura Carlin , Warren , were
married in October 2020 . In
1988 , they were set up by a
mutual friend and had a few
disastrous dates during their
college years . They went on
with their lives , got married
to different people , and had
kids . In 2019 , they were both
single again , found each other
online , began dating , and as
they say .... the rest is history !
