Alumni the world over stepped out on their hometown streets in support of a great cause : UC San Diego student scholarships . Participants of the reimagined virtual Triton 5K logged 1,574 miles via the official race mobile app and raised $ 41,400 for student scholars .
At the Virtual Triton Tailgate Party , Chad Butler ’ 97 and former UC San Diego students from the Grammy award-winning band SWITCHFOOT streamed a concert just for Tritons , sharing stories from their campus days and playing all their radio hits . This year was all virtual and it was all awesome . As part of Homecoming week , prideful Tritons around the world ran , strolled , biked and swam with one noble cause in mind — to make education accessible and affordable for our students . Triton foodies stepped into a virtual kitchen for a Cooking Demo with Jaymar Cabebe ’ 04 and Romeo Roque-Nido , authors of The Filipino Instant Pot Cookbook , while Revelle College chef Josie Lagrimas prepared their pinoy pork BBQ ribs . Tritons also met the Donut Princess of Los Angeles , Mayly Tao ’ 12 , during a live Q & A on Instagram .
Since 1996 , The Triton 5K has raised more than $ 4 million , benefiting over 1,000 motivated and ambitious students .
