Kenneth Bowles , a computer science pioneer , passed away on August 15 , 2018 , in Solana Beach , Calif . He was 89 . Bowles was a member of the UC San Diego faculty for 19 years , from 1965 to 1984 , and gained world renown for initiating and leading a largely student-driven project that culminated in the creation of the UCSD Pascal programming system in the late 1970s , which included a programming language , an operating system and an extensive suite of tools . In 2004 , the Kenneth Bowles Undergraduate Scholarship in Computer Science Engineering was established by UCSD Pascal students , a special honor in his life . Albert S . Kim , Marshall ’ 06 , died July 7 , 2018 , from brain cancer . He was 34 . Kim was working on a degree in filmmaking . He is survived by his parents , sister , brother and extended family .

Dr . Serefeim P . Masouredis , professor emeritus in UC San Diego ’ s Department of Pathology , died September 30 , 2018 at age 95 . He was one of the early faculty members recruited to the UC San Diego Medical School in the late 1960s . His primary research focus was immunohematology .

Christina S . Molinaro , Marshall ’ 14 , died September 27 , 2018 . She was 39 .

Dr . Alan Mark Nahum , MD , died November 10 , 2018 , at the age of 87 . Dr . Nahum was the founding professor and chief of the Division of Otolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery at UC San Diego School of Medicine , where he served from 1971 to 1986 .

Thomas Robinson , Revelle ’ 68 , died September 10 , 2018 surrounded by family . He was 72 . A member of Revelle ’ s inaugural class , he was a dedicated advocate for his college and classmates throughout his life . He was the first president of the UC San Diego Alumni Association , serving from 1974 to 1976 . In 2014 , he championed the yearlong 50th anniversary celebration of the founding of Revelle College . Most recently , he returned to campus in June to celebrate Revelle ’ s 50th class reunion . He and other charter class members dedicated their gift to the university : the rocks and oak tree at Revelle College , a project he had worked on for several years . " His memory will be cherished by the university he loved so dearly ," said current Revelle Provost Paul Yu .
