QUILTS OF HOPE
This fall , Sally Jo Divis ’ 68 and her quilting group crafted 22 quilts for UC San Diego ’ s Hope Scholars Program , which provides support to about 60 former foster and homeless youth . “ Quilts are family things , things you pass down ,” Divis told the students this October . “ I want you all to know that you ’ re family now .” Divis hopes the quilts will be a piece of comfort to students as they begin their undergraduate experience at UC San Diego . Jefferson Mays , MFA , performed in the world premiere of a new adaptation of Charles Dickens ’ A Christmas Carol , at the Geffen Playhouse Theater in Los Angeles . This one-man production featured Mays in nearly 50 different roles , including Scrooge , Bob Cratchit , Tiny Tim and more .

Meredith Rose , Muir , a consulting systems engineer , has won three World Bodysurfing Championships .

Colleen Keirn , Marshall , earned a Doctorate of Education degree at Northeastern University in Boston , Mass ., and works at Saint Mary ’ s College of California in Moraga . Her dissertation study considered the effects of institutional racism on faculty of color in the university and examined how the structure of American higher education impacts the current state of academia .

Nicole E . Granquist , Warren , a partner at Downey Brand LLP in Sacramento , Calif ., was named to the list of “ Best Lawyers in America ” in the field of environmental law .
Chia-Lin Simmon , ERC , is CEO / co-founder of LookyLoo , an AI-powered social commerce company , and member of the board of directors of Servco Pacific . She was featured at the 2018 Grace Hopper Celebration ’ s interactive exhibit on women in modern tech for her work as an executive in AI and emerging technology .

Guillermo A . Escobedo , Warren , was appointed vice president of the San Diego La Raza Lawyers Association . He is a principal in the San Diego office of Jackson Lewis P . C ., where he focuses on training , counseling and defending companies in workplacerelated legal matters .

Maria Figueroa , ERC , an English professor at MiraCosta College , received the 2018 Maestro Award from Latino Literacy Now for her work inspiring students of color to excel in literature and life .
