1970
Roger Showley , Muir , retired from The San Diego Union- Tribune in March 2018 after 44 years . He immediately joined several nonprofit boards and committees dealing with Balboa Park and development and urban design issues . “ I freelance for the UT , finished a pictorial history book of San Diego pre-1940 and have at least two more in the works . So retirement is not very retiring so far . I call it ‘ repositioning .’ Of course , I am revving up my UCSD activism , starting with the alumni association .”
1972
Greg Erickson , PhD , was featured in a San Diego Union- Tribune column for his discovery of unknown Native American rock art in Rancho Bernardo and Poway , findings that are pivotal to research on Native American history .
1978
Vicki ( Meyer ) Parker , Muir , retired in June 2017 after 39 years of teaching in Vista Unified School District . She now tutors at-risk students .
1980
Kevin A . Rockwell , Marshall , “ left the hustle of the Bay Area to live in San Luis Obispo . Still shooting video but without the stress . And returning to surfing , which was a big part of why I went to UCSD .”
1984
Uttam Dhillon , MA , a prominent White House attorney , is the new acting administrator of the Drug Enforcement Administration .
Liora Kian-Gutierrez , 84 , Muir , and Lou Gutierrez , Marshall ’ 74 , celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary on September 1 , 2018 . “ Many UCSD Triton friends were in attendance ; blue and gold decorations were everywhere !”
1986
J . R . Chantengco , Muir , is president of Black Pearl Investments , a capital advisory and investment banking firm in New York City . He was elected president of the Certified Commercial Investment Member ( CCIM ) New York Metro Chapter for 2019 .
1987
Mitchell Jawitz , Revelle , and his wife , Karol , are glad to be back in California after living in various parts of the U . S . for the past 18 years . Their children attend Cal Poly SLO and UCSB . Jawitz is the EVP at Anderson and Murison , a national insurance wholesaler .
1988
James Hayes , Third / Marshall , retired after a 15-year stint in high-speed computer networking . He is president of EastCliff Foundation , providing financial assistance to collegebound high-school seniors from Santa Cruz , Calif .
Caridad Svich , MFA , received the 2018 Ellen Stewart Award for Career Achievement in Professional Theatre from the Association for Theatre in Higher Education ( ATHE ).
1990
Raul Sandelin , Third / Marshall , MA ’ 01 , is producing and directing a new film documentary , KGB-FM : The Station That Rocked San Diego that examines the countercultural phenomenon of FM radio during the 1960s – 80s as seen through the eyes of DJs from radio giant 101KGB-FM .
