Heather Buschman , PhD ’ 08 , a School of Medicine alumna , took a deep dive into the school ’ s history . “ I loved talking to the people who took a chance on a brand-new school 50 years ago , and learning what motivated them . They were willing to be pioneers , and they rewrote medical education in a way that still sets the school apart today ."
Freelance writer Barbara Davenport has followed Chris Yanov and Reality Changers for a long time , ultimately writing the book Grit and Hope , published by UC Press . “ When Yanov started Reality Changers , he made UC San Diego ’ s Academic Connections program an integral part of the game plan for his students . That collaboration is a great example of the ways alumni engage the campus , and how the campus enriches the San Diego community .”
Rachel McNellis ’ 18 , Triton ’ s student writer , was excited to uncover the down-under musical marvel The Piano Mill . “ It ’ s inspiring to see the paths my fellow Tritons take — from lecture halls in sunny San Diego to insane mega-instruments in Outback Australia .”
