We are now reshaping the landscape of healthcare with the recent opening of the state-of-the-art Jacobs Medical Center at UC San Diego Health . The new facility was designed to connect to our other medical centers and research institutes so we can offer our patients the best access to treatments fueled by the latest research . Home to three specialty pavilions — focused on advanced surgical services , cancer , and women and infants — the Jacobs Medical Center marks a significant expansion of our specialized clinical care capabilities . It also underscores the powerful and positive impacts of partnerships and philanthropy , as you will read in our cover story . It is because of Joan and Irwin Jacobs — and the more than 1,000 donors who made gifts in support of this extraordinary endeavor — that Jacobs Medical Center evolved from vision to reality .
