INVESTING IN OUR FUTURE
UC San Diego ’ s meteoric rise from fledgling campus to one of the top public research universities in the world is a feat rarely accomplished . It was possible because of the innovators , mavericks and scholars who envisioned our distinctive university , and who had the courage to build our campus from the ground up .
Today , we build on that legacy of courage and that promise for the future . That is why we are making strategic investments in our future . We are enhancing the student experience , with projects like the upcoming Geisel Library renovation , which will create a new physical space for the Teaching and Learning Commons , add a café and lounge , and reconfigure the lobby . We are renovating and expanding classrooms and teaching laboratories to meet demand for courses , and increasing student services to help students better navigate their college years .

Investments in futuristic academic initiatives — like an innovative hacker lab for quantitative biology , groundbreaking efforts in advanced energy and design , and a new Maker Space — enrich our culture of collaboration and provide more hands-on experience and opportunities . Through the development of our Long Range Development Plan , we are re-envisioning our campus and infrastructure to meet the evolving needs of our students , faculty and staff , and to enhance our University Center downtown neighborhood , in conjunction with the Mid-Coast Corridor Transit Project , which will bring the trolley to the UC San Diego campus in a few years .
Every day , we are working to enhance the living and learning environment at UC San Diego because we believe in our founders ’ promise for the future , and we are keeping it alive and well today .
