WE ARE WHAT WE ATE
You don ' t have to be a craft connoisseur to know a good meal , especially when the mere mention of The Grove , the Che or any campus dining hall will make your hungry for nostalgia . We asked alumni in the food and beverage industry for their favorite foodie memories . We want yours too ! Send them to tritonmag @ uscd . edu
“ Round Table Fridays for pizza and pitchers with good friends ! Porter ' s Pub for shows , or grabbing a drink or bite . Best bang for your buck ( or Triton meal points ): Canyon Vista ' s sandwich bar . I ' d customize my sub , eat half for lunch and half for a snack later .”
Chrissy Weir , Marshall ’ 10 , owns the meal-prep company Food Made Fresh , in Carlsbad , Calif ., delivering healthy and ready-to-eat meals for an active lifestyle .
“ While studying at Rady , the installation of a Peet ’ s Coffee was a godsend ! I spent many hours there in focus and out of focus while working on projects and studying for my MBA .”
Kabir Gambhir , MBA ’ 10 , went from medical device development to the beverage world with Bevea , a line of sparkling wellness tonics made from coffee fruit , ginger and botanicals .
“ Earl ' s Place on the Warren Campus — how many calories did we consume with blended mochas piled high with whipped cream ?? All about the point system … and the boys being hawks at the end of the quarter . And those swim teams ... how they got to load their plates with carbs while us dancers ate salads and plates full of carrots .”
Amanda Caniglia , Warren ’ 00 , owns Bella Vista Café across the street from campus at the Sanford Consortium and writes the “ Life on the Mesa ” column for San Diego Magazine .
“ I have fond memories of OVT while cramming for midterms and finals . In regard to specific dishes , I recall stir-fried rice with veggies and beef , Round Table pizza and street food vendors during events and farmers markets .”
Cris Liang , Marshall ’ 07 , is co-owner of Common Theory Public House , a gastropub restaurant located in San Diego ’ s Convoy District .

My favorite was the vegetable stew we cooked in the custom-fabricated " People ' s Pot " in Revelle Plaza and fed hundreds of students during the student strikes in the late ' 60s .
