Facebook pioneer Taner Halicioglu ’ 96 kicked off the public phase of the Campaign for UC San Diego with a gift of $ 75 million — the largest alumni gift the campus has ever received — to establish the Halicioglu Institute for Data Sciences at UC San Diego . The computer science major from Revelle College hopes the new institute will promote a cross-disciplinary field that is widely considered the backbone of many other disciplines .
