The Stuart Collection at UC San Diego certainly made an impact on KPBS arts and culture reporter Beth Accomando , Warren ’ 82 , who enjoyed being on a campus where art is a part of everyday life . “ The collection goes one step further ,” she says , “ inspiring questions like , ‘ What is art ?’ or ‘ What makes that art ?’— precisely the kind of thing that should be happening at an educational institution .”
Photographer Brennan Romeril , Marshall ’ 11 , was impressed by the director of the Stuart Collection , Mary Beebe . “ She is unique , eclectic … the perfect person to steward the artwork of the Stuart Collection . She puts such care into the art and the legacy of its artists ; she treats them like members of her family . She is a passionate advocate for the art and is truly invested in the collection and its place on the UC San Diego campus .”

A . ’ 01 , professor of sculpture at the Massachusetts College of Art and Design . “ No collection of art has affected me , or my art practice , as much as the Stuart Collection ,” says Hincman . “ I hoped the simple watercolor ‘ caricatures ’ capture the generosity of the Collection , along with Mary Beebe ’ s passion and humor — so integral to the Collection ’ s development and sustainability over the past three decades .”
