SNEAK PEEK : UC San Diego and Scripps Institution of Oceanography are preparing for the arrival of America ’ s newest oceanographic research vessel : R / V Sally Ride . The U . S . Navy-constructed ship honors former UC San Diego professor Sally Ride and comes equipped to perform research from coastlines and continental shelves to the ocean ’ s deepest trenches . Using satellite telepresence , students and teachers will experience ocean exploration while interacting with scientists at sea .
