Freelance writer Annamaria Stephens , ’ 97 , recognizes the huge challenge scientists and policymakers face when it comes to climate change : “ It ’ s taken decades to convince the public that it ’ s really happening , and will take many years more to come up with viable short- and long-term solutions . It ’ s exciting to see UCSD at the forefront of critical research on related topics , from examining contributing factors to pushing for global leadership .”
georgia Southern University professor Jared yates Sexton says of interviewing alumnus DJ Patil : “ I always thought data was a business having nothing to do with my life or the people around me ; something Facebook and the NSA dabbled in to get into my wallet and thoughts . But a conversation with DJ opened my eyes . There ’ s real potential here for change , for transforming a world that looks increasingly tired and unmanageable . A chance to set things right we didn ’ t even know needed setting .” Sexton is the author of An End to All Things and The Hook and the Haymaker .

It didn ’ t take long for Anders Wright to discover just how much the drone industry is vast , varied , and quickly expanding : “ As the technology becomes more sophisticated and the prices drop , it ’ s clear that drones will soon impact our day-to-day lives in ways most of us can ’ t even imagine , and UCSD alumni and faculty will be a part of that happening .” Wright , the lead film critic for the San Diego Union-Tribune , lives in Clairemont with his wife and daughter and an unruly dog .
