SOUTH LAUREL HIGH SCHOOL ALLY COLLETT [ ] FEMALE INSPIRATIONAL STORY OF THE YEAR Ally Collett’s senior year was expected to be a big one after being an intricate part of the South Laurel Lady Cardinals since her seventh grade year. Ally’s year started off strong and after after coming up with a program-best 2,474 points and more than 700 assists, Ally and the Lady Cardinals thought she was down for the remainder of the season after suffering a partially torn PCL. Following her injury, the Lady Cardinals rallied around Ally, sporting her jersey number and making it their mission to play and win for their injured teammate but Ally wasn’t ready to throw in the towel just yet. The senior guard made her debut back on the court within just one month after being told she would likely be out for the next four or five months. Ally’s hard work and determination proved that you can do anything you set your mind to, as Ally finished her career with over 2,500 points and over 1,000 assists, becoming only the third player in Laurel County history to do so. Ally helped to lead her team to their fourth straight district title this season, as well as capturing this year’s 13th Region title. Ally and the Lady Cardinals finished their season with a 58-57 win over Sacred Heart in the Girls Sweet 16 Tournament before its cancellation put an end to their season and their run at the state title. Ally will be continuing her education and basketball career at Western Kentucky University in the fall. 26 | TRISPY AWARDS 2019-2020
