As in previous years we have devoted this edition to our continuing professional development pursuits and sharing the varied content from these events. Access to training and education is essential for motivation in periods of recession but it’s difficult to equitably achieve within tight budget constraints. As a result we are thankful to our professional bodies who provide bursaries for such events. My thanks goes to the Health Sciences Libraries Group who supplied a bursary for staff attendance and for giving me an opportunity to showcase the Rotunda Hospital and its research activities at the HSLG Annual Conference. We share this experience with you in our article, Visible Evidence, on page 3. The Academic and Special Libraries Group of the Library Association of Ireland hosted its annual seminar on the 1st of March. Entitled Content Creators: the Digital Frontier, the seminar explored the many ways in which digitisation is being used to bring collections in specialist libraries to the forefront and increase access for all. Our keynote speaker Simon Tanner from Kings College, London, introduced us to the world of digitisation and its many uses in specialist collections. Our full report on this annual seminar can be found on page 2. Our own staff training days are discussed on page 4. We welcomed instructors from Ebsco and Ovid who gave concise training sessions on their respective products, CINAHL and Medline. Please remember these training dates are free of charge, all that is required is your participation. Any suggestions you have for training would be very welcome. Our Midwifery Journal Club hosted the work of staff in the Lillie Suite in an interesting presentation entitled Making Quality Count: releasing time to care - the Productive Ward which you can read about on page 6. We hope you enjoy this June issue of Trimester. Our next issue will be due out in September.
