Keeping Up With the Olympians
Seventh graders complete Greek mythology projects
Mrs. Powers’ class showed
their projects on Monday, Jan.
27. “I wanted the students to
show and apply their knowledge
of Greek mythology,” said
seventh grade language arts
teacher Mrs. Powers. Mrs.
Powers’ class recently did a
project on the Greek gods and
goddesses and the myths
behind them.
The students got into
groups and had the option
of choosing what they
wanted to do: to write
their own myth, create
an advertisement, make
a cartoon strip, conduct a
fake interview with one
of the gods, or create a
TV show. “I was Artemis
in one of the
interviews,” said
Talle Olsen.
“It was a

information, but also show
our creative side,” said Charlie
Conner. “We were able to not
just learn it but use it,” added
Maddie Galerston. Connor
and Galerston were in the same
group.
They were
one
of the few
groups
that
chose
to do a
written
project. “I
think they
definitely
enjoyed it,” said
Mrs. Powers.

As the students walked
onto the stage to receive their
certificate, they also got to take
a picture with the principal, Dr.
Hitzelberger, while Ms. Janik
read the names of the honored
students. The ceremony closed
with the student reciting NJHS
pledge.
Questions
to Ask
Mrs. Powers’ class and her
Socratic discussion
By: Christian Schaeffler
On February 26, Mrs.
Powers’ held class in the 7/8
assembly room for a Socratic
Discussion.
The class
was split
up in to
different
groups.
The
point
was
to
learn by asking more questions
and answering the questions
about a Walter Dean Myers’
book. That way, the students
participating would better
understand what they were
reading.
