shoes | RRP R1 250 |
www.fl rshoes.co.za
FLR utilises a numerical
naming system we can
get behind – but only
because it makes its
shoes sound like new
additions to the US Air
Force. The F-121 are
FLR’s triathlon-specifi c
models and as such
boast a wide opening
and large heel loop for
easy step in and pull on,
and a two-strap closure
system. They have a
lightweight, breathable
synthetic upper and are
designed to be worn
barefoot. As priced,
they come with a R250
fi breglass injected
outsole but can be
customised with
FLR’s R350
carbon outsole.
Specialized S-Works Power Cranks | RRP R17 800 | www.specialized.com
Measure every Watt of power you put through each leg with the Specialized S-Works Power Cranks.
The dual-sided power cranks, as priced here, feature a stiff carbon construction and weigh in
at 440g for a 172.5mm pair. With a claimed accuracy of +/- 1.5% they utilise separate strain
gauges to individually measure the output of each leg, which Specialized says increases the
system’s overall accuracy. They are compatible with ANT+ and Bluetooth headsets and can
be easily set up and calibrated for temperature fl uctuations using the Specialized Power
mobile application for iOS and Android smart phones.

Canyon Speedmax CF 8.0 Ltd | RRP R112 000 | www.canyon.com
As the ride of Jan Frodeno, the Canyon Speedmax CF is one of triathlon’s most frequently victorious bikes.
What makes it a popular choice among top athletes is its customisability. By ensuring riders can achieve
maximum comfort in an aerodynamic position, it allows for exceptional power transfer through its ultra-stiff
frame. The 8.0 Ltd build kit includes a Shimano Ultegra Di2 drivetrain, Canyon’s Aero Support Attachments
Area and a Fizik Mistica saddle. The bike rolls on a combination of Zipp 404 and 808 Firecrest wheels. This
should be a great selling point for triathletes who train or race in South Africa’s windy coastal cities, as there is
no need to upgrade to a wind-friendly aft ermarket wheel-set.
