RACING » WESTERN CAPE Mountain biking, trail running and jumping off cliffs were all on the agenda for Big 6 women’s winner Vicky van der Merwe (below). he Walker Bay Xtreme is one of my favourite events on the multisport calendar – I love its location, the mix of events that cater to athletes of all abilities, and the fantastic vibe. I’ve been lucky enough to travel to more than 40 different countries (mostly for racing), yet for me, nothing beats South Africa. Hermanus must be one of the most beautiful coastal towns in the world and is my favourite weekend T 138 getaway destination. It’s only an hour’s drive from where I live in Stellenbosch, and it offers so much: sea, mountain, well-maintained trails, fantastic restaurants and welcoming locals. It’s the perfect setting for an active family weekend! It’s also fantastic to see how local businesses get involved and support the WBX. Then there’s the event, or should I say events. There really is something for everyone over the weekend, from a Strongman competition Vicky van der Merwe spent a weekend in Hermanus for a family festival of adventure at the Walker Bay Xtreme – where she successfully defended her title as Big 6 women’s champion.
